Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup With Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Astros winning the championship in the 2017 season.
Canada's MLB team reached their maiden championship series since 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh game seven of the ALCS.
Down by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh inning, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a four games to three triumph in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, the city, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now hit 23 total October home runs, making him third all-time after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another person in the world that I'd choose in that moment besides George Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club never to appear in a championship series.
Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their performance this season.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the wrong side of this game," he continued.
Toronto secured the championship on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
