Thrice-crowned MVP Jokic sustains a 'gut-wrenching' knee injury.
Three-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "devastating" knee injury while the Nuggets were defeated 147-123 to the Heat.
The star player injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half following an unintentional coming together with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
The other player landed on the foot of the big man, who immediately went down to the ground grabbing his leg.
The star, who tops the NBA season in boards and assists, had a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the contest before suffering the injury.
The player will undergo an MRI on the following day to assess the seriousness of the injury.
"Immediately, he understood something was wrong," commented Nuggets coach David Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Anyone who is injured, it's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as special as Jokic. More information will come tomorrow."
"The team will adjust together. Clearly, currently, I'm focused primarily about him personally and the letdown of going through an event of that nature."
