The Princess of Wales's Traditional Festive Service of Carols Honours Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will enjoy a mix of carols, music and readings from actors such as award-winning actors.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
