Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending corner before the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's car in third, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
