Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking different ways to have fun with the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and another details all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
