Arsenal's manager remains confident that his squad can keep managing with injury setbacks after confirming that star striker Kai Havertz will not return for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

The German forward has been absent since the summer following knee surgery. Originally slated to return at the start of this month, Arteta revealed the player encountered a problem when advancing his recovery and was unable to move forward “the next phase.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a squad that is much more reliable and has greater depth,” stated the manager.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This update creates a dilemma for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. A decision is required between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who got a goal in an unfamiliar forward role against Chelsea, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return after a fitness issue in the latter stages. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus remains an option following a lengthy absence.

Defensive Concerns Persist

Further fitness issues surround centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the Chelsea match. Therefore, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to start again in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.

Arteta feels the £250m spend on reinforcements in the last transfer window has left Arsenal in a far better place to navigate such setbacks.

Greater Options Key to Premier League Pursuit

In response if increased squad depth was aiding their league challenge, the manager agreed. “Indeed, as this campaign has presented greater challenges in the attacking line, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he added.

“We learned from the past that we have to use players in various roles, and they have to be able to adapt to new tasks if we are to fight at the highest level. And the instance of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Arteta's Support for Suffering Star

Commenting on the setback noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided more insight. “He followed all protocols. He failed to advance to the required step and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

Arteta expressed his personal desire to see him return. “The team is keen to have him. Truly, it’s a player that, in my view, I value highly for his contributions to the team, but his personality, his personality. I observe his frustration while sidelined.”

“His playing record is exceptional, he's usually fit, and I am eagerly awaiting to get him back with the squad on the pitch because I believe it’s going to be a huge lift.”
